Broadleaf Control in Sterling Heights
The broadleaf weed family includes weeds such as dandelions, chickweed and plantain, just to name a few. These are some of the most common weeds that will grow in virtually any lawn, and if left unchecked, they can literally take over and displace the native grass which had been planted.
Broadleaf Weed Control: Your Way vs. The Easy Way
The age old method of removing broadleaf weeds from any lawn has been to pull or dig them out. This works fine if you have only a few weeds to get rid of, or if you have a smaller yard. You can spend a few hours during the week pulling or digging, and if done regularly, you will have a broadleaf free lawn.
There are specialized diggers for this, the ordinary forked dandelion digger is one of them, and the most important part is making sure you get the entire root of the plant out. In most cases, if you only remove part of the root, the plant will actually grow back, so this is a very important consideration if you are going to do it yourself.
Your Way
One way to get the job done is by spreading a broadleaf weed control product. For best results, you’ll need a dedicated spreader that you fill up with with a weed and feed type of product, set the spreader to distribute the correct amount, and push it over your lawn. You’ll have to be careful to read the directions and spread the right proportion, or you may end up killing more than just the weeds
If the weeds are isolated, like say between the cracks in paving for instance, you can get a broadleaf spray and spot kill the weeds with a hand sprayer. But once again, you have to be careful and watch out for over spray. Any small gust of wind, or bad aim, can potentially cause some of the broadleaf weed control product to spread onto other plants. If that happens, you may hurt ornamentals, garden plants or even leave large brown dead patches in your lawn.
